Kenneth M. Stokes, 92, died peacefully at his Fremont home Tuesday morning, November 14, 2006.
He was born on May 14, 1914 in Riley Twp to Lester A. & Vernel Pearl (Roberts) Stokes. Kenneth attended Chippewa School and on February 3, 1934 he married Mary Elizabeth Bower in Clyde and she died on June 26, 2001.
Among other occupations, Kenneth worked as a truck driver, retiring in 1969 from the H.W. Bower Trucking in Genoa. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Nifty Neighbors Farm Bureau, Sandusky County Democratic Party, National Ground Observers Corps, the Teamster Union Local #20 and enjoyed fishing. Kenneth was known to play many musical instruments and was a member of the Harmonetts which played functions at Wightmans Grove, the Tiffin Eagles and the Liberty Glass Bar.
Surviving are his children; Carolyn Stokes Morgan, Barbara (Donald J.) Held all of Fremont, Gene A. (Carolyn) Stokes of Las Vegas, NV, Arlene Stokes Calhoun of Irene, TX and Diane (William) Jendruch of Rossford, OH. Also surviving Kenneth are his 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Pearl Gilbert.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17, 2006 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 2-4 & 7-9 PM with funeral services on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at the funeral home at 10:30 AM with Pastor Stephen Seibel officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery, Clyde. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church, Hospice of Memorial Hospital or to the donors choice.
