Alice (Schlea) Swartzlander 94, of Gibsonburg, died Wednesday morning at the emergency room of Memorial Hospital in Fremont. She was born on February 1, 1911 in Gibsonburg to George and Sarah (Driftmeyer) Schlea. Alice graduated from Gibsonburg High School and Toledo Business College. On August 22, 1936 she married Norman Swartzlander at Zion Lutheran Church. He died October 8, 1997. Alice was a librarian at the Gibsonburg branch of Birchard Library, retiring in 1980. She was a very active member of Zion Lutheran Church and an avid hand quilter.
Surviving are daughters, Mary Hetrick of Port Clinton, Jean (Tom) Bamburowski of Bowling Green and Gail (Page) Glasgow of Bloomfield, MI; grandchildren, Brent (Heather), David Bamburowski and 2 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, brother, Paul Schlea and sister, Marie Rose.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church where her body will lie in state for one-half hour prior to the service. Pastor Blair Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sandusky County Park District for the Schlea-Swartzlander Log Cabin Fund.
