LeRoy A. Swartzlander of Lindsey died on his 85th birthday, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Oregon. He was born in Millersville, OH to Mearle S. and Ida (Wammes). LeRoy attended Fremont Ross High School. He was a WWII Army veteran and a maintenance welder at Ford Motor Company in Sandusky for 31 years, retiring in 1988. On January 22, 1946 he married Jeanette Schlievert in Richmond, VA and she survives. LeRoy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Eagles, Moose, VFW, Elks and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, watching NASCAR, Boxing, working around the farm and fixing things up.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years, are children, Judith (Keith) Hendrix of Port Clinton, Larry (Sue) Swartzlander of Modesto, CA, Gary (Debbie) Swartzlander of Broken Arrow, OK, Karen (Larry) Aldrich of Lindsey and Jeffrey (Heike) Swartzlander of Huber Heights, OH; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Swartzlander.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 6th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with one hour of visitation at church prior the service. Pastor Bob Young will be officiating. Burial will follow at Lindsey Cemetery with military services.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donors choice.
