Virgil Swartzlander, 87 formerly of Gibsonburg, died early Friday morning at Parkcliffe Community in Toledo, OH. He was born on April 3, 1920 at the rural family home in Gibsonburg to the now deceased Clarence and Mary (Paul) Swartzlander. Virgil was a 1939 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. On February 13, 1943 he married Dorothy Heineman in Hessville at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and she survives in Fremont. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hessville and the State Association of County Treasurers. Virgil was the elected Sandusky County Treasurer for almost forty years, retiring in 1997 and a self-employed accountant and tax preparer retiring in 2003.
Surviving are children: Dennis (Terry) of Columbus, Anne of Knoxville, TN, Jeff of San Diego, CA, Jodi (Ron) Bell of Sylvania, OH and 9 grandchildren, Kevin, Stephanie, Amanda, Ben, Dan & Steve Swartzlander, Derek, Chad & Krissi Bell. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Gareld & Norman Swartzlander and Leola Minich.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 28 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont.
Services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hessville with one hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Burial will follow at North Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
Memorial donations may be made to the church.
