Nelda L. Taulker

Gibsonburg resident, Nelda L. Taulker, age 93, died in her rural home Thursday morning, September 24th. Born on September 8, 1916, she is the daughter to the now deceased Zara and Agnes Harriet (Baumer) Mengel. Nelda graduated from the Gibsonburg High School in 1935 and married Robert Elmer Taulker in Elkhart, IN in April 1936. He died July 25, 1999.

Throughout her life, she worked with her husband on the family farm while waitressing at various restaurants, most notable being Ole Zims Wagon Shed and the WR Truck Stop in Gibsonburg. She fully retired at the age of 74.

Nelda enjoyed gardening and grooming flower and houseplants, especially Chocolate Soldier Violets. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pemberville and the former Womens Relief Corp of Gibsonburg. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren and liked to quilt and crochet, bake and cook.

Surviving her is her daughter, Kathie Welty of Gibsonburg; 7 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sons Robert Jr. and Jon Taulker, son-in-law Larry L. Welty, Sr., two brothers and a grandchild.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, 11 a.m., at the West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg. Rev. David Wietleman will officiate.
