Green Springs resident, Edna Catherine Thornton, 92, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 30, 2011. She passed peacefully at her home under hospice care.
Born on August 22, 1918 in Bellevue, she was a daughter of the now deceased Harry and Elizabeth (Bauman) Wood. Edna attended York High School and later worked as a plastic chemical lab technician for the A. Schulman Plastics Company. She retired in 1980. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue and attended mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fremont. Edna loved animals, watching the Indians and playing cards with her family, especially Skip-Bo. Sharing a strong cup of coffee was a way to spend valuable time with her.
Edna married Virgil C. Thornton in Bellevue on October 22, 1956. He passed on October 22, 1985.
Surviving her are her daughter Marna (Larry) Barto of Green Springs, step children Cynthia (Larry) Ulrich of Oshkosh, WI, Thomas J. (Colleen) Thornton of Appleton, WI, Patrick A. (Kay) Thornton of Oshkosh and Robert Tim Thornton of Bellevue; 2 grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; 2 step great, great-grandchildren; and siblings, Norma Moore of Fremont and Anita (Richard) Porczak of Defiance.
Edna is preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Rolland Wood, Geraldine Griffin, Harry R. Babe Wood, Jr., Michael, Harley and Elsie Wood.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, 11:30 a.m., at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fremont where visitation will be that morning beginning at 10:00. Rev. John Alice will officiate her funeral ceremony.
Committal services will be at private.
Contributions in Ednas memory may be made to Community Hospice Care, Tiffin or to the charity of the donors choice.
