Daniel Dan Turco, 85, passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, December, 11, 2008 at Bay Park Community Hospital in Oregon, OH. He was born in Ellsworth, PA. on March 23, 1923 a son of now deceased Biago and Candita (Calvisi) Turco. On June 21, 1947 he married Mary E. Wasserman, and she survives. Dan worked at Libbey Owens Ford on East Broadway, Toledo before retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran who served during WWII, and was a member of Welker- Smith Post 17, Gibsonburg. He was a member of St. Michaels Church in Gibsonburg.
Dan, an avid golfer, enjoyed playing at Sugar Creek Golf Club where he was a long time member. He was also a devoted fan and follower of all Gibsonburg Golden Bear sports and treasured going to all the games. He also loved watching sports on TV, especially Ohio State; Cleveland Cavaliers, Browns and Indians; going fishing; vacations in Florida; gardening; and spending time with his family.
Surviving Dan are his wife, Mary; children, William Turco of Elmore, Diann (Paul) Clouse of Tiffin, Susan (Jon) Ginnever of Fremont, and Nancy (Kevin) Walby of Gibsonburg; siblings, Josephine (Benny) Lazzaro, Oregon, OH, Edward Turco, Moline, OH, Dominick (Charlott) Turco, Northwood, OH, and James (Dorothy) Turco, Moline, OH; nine grandchildren, Billy, Danny, Traci, and Michael Turco, Matthew, Tony and Maggie Heater, and Nicholas and Sarah (Jividen) Walby; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Louis and John Turco; and granddaughter, Melissa (Turco) Wheatly.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. Additional visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday with prayers at 10 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michaels Church in Gibsonburg. Military services will be conducted at St. Lawrence Cemetery where burial will take place.
