Walter A. Vogt, age 89 and life long resident of Riley Township, Fremont, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, February 26, at the Countryside Continuing Care Center in Fremont.
He was born on October 13, 1916 to William Arthur and Martha O. (Karbler) Vogt. They both preceded him in death along with his brother Theodore Ted Vogt and son in law, James Spriggs. Walter married Estella May Poths of Bellevue at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont on May 7, 1942. She survives. Also surviving is their daughter Suzanne Spriggs of Fremont; grandchildren Melissa (Michael) Hubbs of Fremont and Kristopher James (Kimberly) Spriggs of Clyde; a great granddaughter, a step great granddaughter, two step great grandsons and a step great great grandson.
He and his wife, Estella, lived on and operated the Vogt farms of Fremont until 1983 when he retired and more recently relocated to Sandusky Township for health reasons.
Walter was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on its church council, worked as an usher and greeter and was a member of Grace Fellowship for many years. Walter was a member of the Sandusky County Farm Bureau Progressive Council, and the Golden Threads of Memorial Hospital. A graduate of Ross High School, he participated in school affairs and was a charter member of the Fremont Ross FFA Chapter. He enjoyed and was active with the 1935 alumni.
Walter had a love for the culinary arts as he and his wife catered many wedding receptions, dinner parties and banquets. He also had a flair for interior decorating and completed projects from Toledo to Rocky River, Tiffin to Catawba Island.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 1, at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont where there will be an additional hour of visitation prior to the services. Pastor Paul Gruetter will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Walters name may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donors choice..
