Vernis C. Walker, 80 of Gibsonburg, died early Friday morning at his home. He was born on June 23, 1924 in Gibsonburg to Carl and Mattie (Roebke) Walker. Vernis graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army. He was a partner with his father and brother in Walker Electric in Gibsonburg until the late 60s. Vernis also was an electrician for Ohio Lime, retiring in 1990. On October 15, 1949 he married Kathleen C. Streiffert in Elmore and she survives.
Vernis was past President of the Gibsonburg Business Association and enjoyed collecting coins and stamps and woodworking. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Also surviving Vernis is one daughter, Carol Walker of Toledo and sister Eloise Bruns, Perrysburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Willis Walker.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Gibsonburg.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Blair Miller officiating.
Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery.
