Former Gibsonburg resident Bill E. Ward of Mobile, Alabama died Friday evening, March 16, at the Gordon Oaks Nursing Home in Mobile. He was 78. Bill was born in Hessville, Ohio on October 28, 1928 to John J. and Lula (Van Ness) Ward. A graduate of Gibsonburg High School and Army Veteran, Bill married Patricia Foos on May 7, 1949 at the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg. She died on August 23, 1996. Bill joined the Mobile, Alabama Police Department where he worked as a data processor and computer operator. He retired in 1996. He was a member of the St. Dominics Catholic Church in Mobile. Surviving him are children William J. (Sharon) Ward of Pemberville, OH, Jon (Barb) Ward of Gibsonburg, Joan L. (Michael) Preston of Mobile, AL and Julie A. Bly of Newport News, VA and sister Norma McClish of Woodville. 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 21, 10:30 a.m., at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Gibsonburg. Fr. Ted Miller will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Gibsonburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bills name may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
