Mary Alice Wingard, 92, formerly of Third Avenue and most recently of Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont died peacefully on Thursday evening February 19, 2009. She was born to the now deceased Otterbein & Flora (Bevington) Creager at her parents home in Dayton, OH on December 30, 1916. Mary Alice received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan College where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Mrs. Wingard was a former English teacher in Dayton and later worked in human resources for Frigidaire Corporation in Dayton.
On September 14 1946 she married Robert W. Wingard in Dayton. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2000.
Mary Alice led a very active life. She and her husband loved to travel. Mary Alice enjoyed playing Bridge and was an avid golfer. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Fremont Memorial Hospital Womens Auxiliary, Hayes Garden Club, Fremont Country Club and Cosmopolitan.
Surviving are children; William (Candyce) Wingard of Fremont and Susan Wingard of Cincinnati, 2 grandchildren; Jamie and John and 3 great grandchildren, Thomas, Ian and Eli. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Martha Belle and infant brother William.
A service commemorating her life will be held on Saturday, February 28, 11:00 a.m., at the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church in Fremont. Pastor Denise Turpin will officiate. Friends will be received at 10 a.m until the time of the service at church.
Memorials may be made to Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Fremont or to Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
