Joseph C. Halm, Jr., 85 of Fremont, died on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at his home. He was born on April 12, 1926 in Fremont to Joseph C. Sr. and Alma (Brewer) Halm. Joe was a 1944 graduate of St. Joseph's High School and later earned an Accounting Degree at Tiffin University. He was a WWII Army Veteran receiving a Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal and Combat Infantrymen Badge. On November 28, 1946 he married Laurene F. Roob at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Fremont and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2003. Joe was an accountant and parts manager for several auto dealers. He worked at Baumann's, the Dodge Garage and lastly Wilhelm's Auto Parts. In 1999 he was named St. Joseph High School All Star for punting. Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher for 45 years. Joe enjoyed watching Michigan sports teams, especially the U of M football, Detroit Lions, the Pistons and the Redwings. He was a member of the VFW. Joe was a 2nd Ward Councilman during the preparation of getting the flood wall constructed. Surviving are his children, Beatrice A. Halm of Rocky Ridge, Lois K. (Mike) Green and James J. (Brenda) Halm all of Fremont; 8 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson, Terrance Lee Atkins Jr. in 1998, siblings - Norma Foos, Josie Baumer and Jean Swartz. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 4, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 5th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Michael Zacharias officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites by the VFW and the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or for Homeless Veterans in Joe's memory.
