Richard R. Lenz, 77, of Fremont, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky. He was born on September 19, 1934 in Fremont to Henry and Lena (Trapp) Lenz. Richard was a 1954 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He was a production inspector at Ford Motor Company in Sandusky for 39 years, retiring in 1994. On September 27, 1958 he married Joyce Polter at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Clyde and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2010. He very much loved his wife of over 51 years, his children and family. Richard was known at "Boom Pa" to his grandson. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Fremont. During his high school years, he was 3rd chair in the band. Richard enjoyed going to movies, watching the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes with his family. He will be terribly missed by his girls. Surviving are children, Mark (Jolette) Lenz of Clarksville, TN, Melinda (Richard) Veler of Clyde, Michael Lenz and Marie Lenz both of Fremont; grandchildren, Matthew (Donna) Lenz of Ashville, NC, David Lenz of Clarksville, TN, Ashley (Justin) Ayers of Charleston, SC, Brittiny Wulf of Columbia, SC, Colton Veler of Clyde, Coty Perkins and Lila Lenz of Fremont; and great granddaughter, Heather Lenz; sister, Lois (Donald) Shiets of Oak Harbor and brother, Gerald (Bobbie) Lenz of Fremont. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Delbert Nye and sister, Betty Nye-Carnahan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 10 - 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with a Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Joseph Lees Memorials may be made to Stein Hospice in Richard's memory.
