Barbara A Chatelain

March 17, 1927 — February 27, 2012

In the early morning of February 27, 2012, with her family by her side, Barbara Ann (Alexander) Chatelain of Findlay passed away. She knew it was time for her to dance and sing again. Barbara was born on March 17, 1927 to George and Gail (Moyer) Alexander. She married her high school sweetheart Arthur "Ned" Chatelain in 1947 and he survives. She and Ned raised four children; Sherrie (Jeff) Dietsch of Findlay; Cathy (Arthur) Bowman of Denver, Colorado; Eric Chatelain of Findlay; and Jill (Cletus) Kinn of McComb. She was a wonderful Nana to her grandchildren; Erika (Steve)Brokamp of Findlay; Calina Bowman; Alexander Bowman both of Denver, Colorado; Corey Sabaitis of McComb and Jason Kinn of Fremont. She was G.G. Nana to her great-grandson Evan Brokamp of Findlay, who brought her much joy and laughter her last two years. Barbara is survived by two brothers; Don (Helen-deceased) Alexander of Findlay; and Joe (Jean) Alexander of Port Clinton. Also surviving her is a brother-in-law Fred Weising of Findlay and a sister-in-law Ruth (Chatelain) Walton of Findlay. She was proceeded in death by her two sisters; Margaret (Peg) Weising and Jeanne (Walter-deceased) Mueller and one grandson, Jamie Krantz. Barbara attended Findlay public schools and graduated from Findlay High School in 1945. She was first and foremost a wonderful mother who enjoyed raising her children. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling with her family. Barbara was a member of the Fort Findlay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Hancock Genealogical Society, Ohio Genealogical Society, Pioneers of Hancock County, First Families of Ohio, Ellis Island Foundation and served on the Mitchell Family Association Board. Her community activities include Beta Sigma Phi, Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary, Twigs and Camp Fire Board. At Lincoln Elementary School, she assisted in the installation of the Dewey Decimal System and during World War II knitted and rolled bandages for the troops. Her hobbies included painting, sewing, playing bridge with her girlfriends and golfing. Barbara was a secretary for the Chamber of Commerce. As co-owner of Tasty Taters Potato Chip Company she helped deliver the potato chips to local stores. Barbara's favorite job was working at Dietsch Brothers as a candy packer. In fact, one of her favorite quotes is "Life is like an ice cream cone, if you don't lick it, it will drip on your shoe." At Barbara's request, there will be a celebration of her life for family and friends at the Knights of Columbus, 701 W. Main Cross St., Findlay, OH on Saturday March 17th from 11:00am-2:00pm. The family will be holding a private burial service. Donations in her honor may be made to Cancer Patient Services, 1800 N. Her family would like to thank the staff at The Heritage and Blanchard Valley Hospital for taking such excellent care of Barbara, especially this past month.
