Gladys A. Sterling, 95, of Fremont, died on April 3, 2012 at Elmwood Assisted Living. She was born on January 26, 1917 in Fremont to Frank and Amelia (Ohms) Shiets. On June 26, 1941 she married David A. Sterling at St. John's Lutheran Church and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1998. Gladys was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was married. She was involved with Rachel Circle, Altar Guild and on the Church Council at times. She was head of the Sewing Committee for many years. Gladys was involved with a craft group that donated their works to the Fall Bazaar at St. John's. Gladys loved playing cards, sometimes five times a week. She also enjoyed traveling to Equator, Hawaii, Branson, Minnesota and several surprise trips with the Senior Center. She has enjoyed living at Elmwood Assisted Living in the recent years. Gladys was a machine operator at Heinz Company for a number of years, retiring in 1978. Surviving are her children; Mary Ann (Gary) McNair, Lloyd Sterling both of Fremont, Janet (David) Mangledorf of Cushing, MN, Mark (Gaye) Sterling of Helena and Thomas (Rebecca) Sterling of Fremont: grandchildren: Wendy (Timothy) Kwiatkowski, Jeffrey (Jenny) McNair, Scott (Renee) McNair, Hope (Charles) Hudrlik, Erin (Robert) Bolla II, Shauna (Jeremy) Bickelhaupt, Andrea (Eric) Butzier, Brittany (Jason) Vincent, Jordan Sterling, Miranda Sterling, Rachel Sterling and Hanna Sterling: great-grandchildren; Tiffany (Ryan) Ladd, Ethan McNair, Devin McNair, Alexandria McNair, Nicholas McNair, Kyle McNair, Hailey Hudrilik, Jackson Hudrlik, Chloe Bolla, Wyatt Bolla, Xoie Bickelhaupt, Jaxon Bickelhaupt, Oteaux Bickelhaupt and Adilyn Butzier; great-great granddaughter, Madison Ladd; sisters, Iva Baker and Agnes Willis both of Fremont. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings - Cleo Shiets, Grace Shetenhelm, Lois Shiets, Ruth Erb and one granddaughter, Tracey Sterling. Visitation will be on Monday, April 9, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Pastor Joe Lees will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
