Clyde O. Shammo, Sr., 79 of Gibsonburg passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on December 28, 1932 to Charles & Mabel (Sevitts) Shammo in Gibsonburg. Clyde was a 1951 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. He served in Germany with the US Army from 1953-1955 and assisted with the clean up from the Korean War. Clyde also served in the Army Reserves for 8 years. On August 25, 1956 he married Joyce A. Burton in Wayne, OH and she survives in Gibsonburg. Clyde worked as an Insulator for Local 45 heat and frost insulators retiring in 1995 after 40 years. He was also a farmer. Clyde started the Sugar Creek 4-H club in 1966 with Carl Wolpert where he was an advisor for over 30 years, a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a member of S.C.R.A.P, the VFW Fremont and the American Legion, Gibsonburg. Clyde loved working with wood, and was an avid gardener including nut trees. He was also an avid mushroom hunter. Surviving are his children; Clyde (Theresa) Shammo, Jr. of Gibsonburg, Cathy (Keith) Krotzer of Helena, James (Cathy) Shammo, Randall (Iona) Shammo all of Gibsonburg, Bryan (Tammy) Shammo of Helena and Lisa (Michael) Crispen of Gibsonburg. He is survived by 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, siblings; Mardel (Joseph) Haslinger of Gibsonburg, Marjorie (William) Gregg of Woodville, Lucille (Luther) Hoodlebrink of Woodville, Robert (Virginia) Shammo of Pemberville, Mary Ann (Edward) Collins of Fairfield, OH, Alice Shammo of Gibsonburg and Patricia (Robert) Kline of Helena. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; William Shammo, Suzie Hiser, Donald Shammo and Ralph Shammo. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg from 2-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg at 10:30 AM with additional visitation one hour prior to the service with Pastor Blair Miller officiating. Burial will follow at W. Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg with military honors provided by the Gibsonburg American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Memorial Hospital in Clyde's memory.
