Shirley Lauer, 77 of Tiffin, formerly of Gibsonburg, died Sunday, April 08, 2012 at St Francis Home, Tiffin. Shirley was born on March 31, 1935, in Detroit, MI to John & Eleanor (Obee) Stokus. Shirley was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, MI and went to Central Michigan State and Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, MO. She married James A. Lauer of Elmore, OH on July 14, 1956 and he died in 1990. They have three children; Patrick (Vickie) Lauer of Tiffin, Debbie Lauer of Tiffin and Michael (JoAnn) Lauer of Chugiak, Alaska. There are also eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Eileen Jack of LaCanada, CA and Millie (Bob) Laundra of Northville, MI. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. Mrs. Lauer retired from Chemi-Trol Chemical Co. in 1997. Former positions include Deputy Director of the Sandusky County Board of Elections; proof reader for the Fremont News Messenger, librarian for the Harris Elmore Public Library, and radio operator for Delta Airlines. Mrs. Lauer volunteered for Sandusky County Hospice, Memorial Hospital, and Habitat for Humanity. She served on church council at St. Michael's in Gibsonburg for several years. She served as chair of the Toledo Diocesan Assembly of the Fremont Deanery and was active in the Vision 2000 committee for clustering the parishes in the area. She loved to sing and was a member of Veracious Voices of Victory Community Chorus and sang in the choir at St. Michael's for several years. She was also very active in the Sandusky County Democratic Party, serving as a Central Committee Person and Executive Committee member. She also held the office of party secretary for many years. Services will be held at Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg with viewing being held Tuesday, April 10th from 2-7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael's Gibsonburg on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with a burial to follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Gibsonburg. The family wishes to thank St. Francis Home of Tiffin and Community Hospice of Tiffin for their loving hands and kind hearts.
