M. Amanda (Huddleston) Miller

COLUMBUS: Mary Amanda Huddleston Miller, formerly of 206 Briarwood Dr, Fremont, OH and most recently Columbus, OH, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 19, 2012. She was born on March 21st, 1919, in McCaskill, Arkansas to Herman L. and Laura Emra (Hartsfield) Huddleston. Amanda was a graduate of Nashville High School in Nashville, Arkansas, Henderson State Teacher's College, and the George Peabody College for Teachers. She taught in Arkansas and in the Panama Canal Zone before moving to Fremont in 1955, where she taught at Stamm and Otis Elementary Schools until her retirement in 1981 after 41 years of service. She loved both teaching and her students. In Fremont she was a member of the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church and was active with the United Methodist Women. She also was involved with the local, state, and national Teacher Associations, Croghan Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Society, and Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Society. After her retirement she enjoyed working as a volunteer in the community. Amanda is survived by her husband of 29 years Roy A. Miller also formerly of Fremont and now residing at 730 N. Spring Rd., Apt. 124, Westerville, Ohio 43082; four step-children: John (Lynda) of Shoreview, MN., Chuck (Carol) of Gahanna, OH., and Suzanne Mehling and Rick, both of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws Nell Huddleston of San Antonio, TX. and Billy Huddleston of Kenai, AK; and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Lewis of San Antonio and Sam of Kenai. A Memorial Service for Amanda will be held at the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, 1441 Fangboner Rd., Fremont, on Saturday, June 9th at 11:00. Friends may call on the family from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church before the service. Lunch will be provided at the church after a brief graveside service at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church or to Zusman Hospice, 1151 College Ave, Columbus, OH 43209.
