Mary M. (Snib) Smith

Mary M. (Snib) Smith, age 97, passed into eternal life on July 17, 2012at Bethesda Care Center. Mary was born to parents Caroline (Foos) and Juventius Welker on May 10, 1915 and lived her entire life in Fremont. She attended St. Joseph grade and high schools graduating with the class of 1933. She was united in marriage May 21, 1938 to Robert C. Smith in Saint Joseph Catholic Church. The couple became the parents of four children, daughter, Elaine C. Garvin of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, sons, Patrick R. (Pam) Smith of Limerick, Pennsylvania, Randall C. (Frances) Smith of Richmond, Virginia and Dennis J. Smith of Fremont. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and three great-grandsons. Preceding her in death were her husband of 30 years, two sisters, Frances (John) Widman, Eva Welker both of Fremont and son-in-law, Richard Garvin. Mary retired in 1980 from the offices of Kelsey Hayes, in Fremont and Kingsway, Ohio after 21 years of service. After retirement she traveled extensively and did volunteer work in various community groups. She was also actively involved in the national order of the Daughters of Isabella and served as Regent for six years of the Fremont group, Our Lady of the Pines Cir., #357. The order is no longer active. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Confraternity, St. Joseph Alumni and a long time member of St. Ann's Church. Until recently she had made her home since 2004 at Bethany Place . Her source of strength throughout her life was her strong Catholic faith, her loving family and treasured friends. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed needlework and quilting. Visitation will be held at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 900 North St, Fremont on Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 8 p.m. A Mass of resurrection will be held on Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1021 W. State St., Fremont beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bishop Hoffman Catholic Schools 716 Croghan St., or to Hospice of Memorial Hospital, 430 S. Main St., Clyde.
