John R. Keim, 79 of Mesa, AZ, died on August 4, 2012 at his home in Arizona. He was born on July 25, 1933 in Old Fort, OH to Lawrence David and Nellie Gertrude (McDaniel) Keim. John enlisted in the service the day after his 17th birthday and served with the Air Force until 1953 then in 1954 he enlisted with the Marine Corp and served until 1970, doing two tours of duty in Vietnam. While in service to his country, John earned several medals, including a Good Conduct Medal with 3 stars; National Defense Service Medal with 1 star; the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars; the Presidential Unit Citation; Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60; Vietnam cross of Gallantry w/Palm; Navy Commendation Medal w/Combat V; and Expert Badge (Rifle, Pistol). On August 8, 1955, he married Carole Lee Loving in Angola, IN and she preceded him in death in July 1992. John enjoyed gardening and doing ceramics. He was an electrician for Toledo Edison for many years, retiring in 1990. Surviving is his daughter, Connie Riehl of Florence, SC; four grandchildren ; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Lawrence Keim, June Fate both of Old Fort, OH, Robert Keim of Clyde, Richard Keim of Tiffin, Carol Harrah of Avon Lake, OH, Peggy Boroff of Marysville, OH and Sharon Warner of Northwood, OH. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cynthia White and sister, Marjorie Rathburn. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasant Union Cemetery with Pastor Betty Wineland officiating. Friends and family will be received from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the chapel at the cemetery. Contributions in John's memory may be made to The Angel Tree or Make a Wish.
