Irv Mittan Jr. 77, of Fremont died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, September 6, 2012. He was born on February 23, 1935 in Fremont to Irvin E. and Lillian (Kroetz) Mittan Sr. Irv graduated from Fremont Ross High School where he was a member of the Fremont Ross Basketball League and served in the U.S. Army from November 1957 to August 1962. He worked and was retired from General Motors Power Train. Irv was married to Virginia Brown in 1981 and she survives. He was a lay pastor for several churches and 16 years for the Second United Church of Christ in Tiffin. Irv also enjoyed gardening. Surviving in addition to his wife are children: Lisa Mittan of Richmond, TX, Amy (Jim) Printy of Fremont and Paul (Gwen) Brown of Westerville, OH; sisters: Jeanne Goodman of Sun City Center, FL and JoAnn Slaymaker of Fremont; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Rosanne on April 27, 1971, sisters Betty Pfaff and Karen Crispen. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Ralph Middleton officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fremont American Legion & VFW Post. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Side Presbyterian Church, 1020 Kentucky Ave., Fremont, OH 43420 in Irv's memory.
