William "Bill" Snyder

William "Bill" Snyder, 87 of Fremont, died early Monday, September 10, 2012 at Bethesda Care Center. He was born on January 2, 1925 in Fremont to Herman P. and Louise A. (Dunning) Snyder. Bill was a 1943 graduate from St. Joseph High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 through 1946 during WWII in the Pacific Theatre earning the WWII Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon and the American Area Ribbon. On June 16, 1948 he married Jeanne Rich at St. Joseph Catholic Church and she survives. Bill graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1951 and in 1955 he started his own insurance business which he sold in 1986. He was a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Bill and his wife, Jeanne were on the Marriage Preparation Team for the High School Seniors at St. Joseph High School from 1956 thru 1967. He was a Catholic Chaplain for the protestant funeral home, Karlovetz and Dorfmeyer, assisting with all the Catholic funerals. From 1955 to 1980 he was the St. Joseph Booster Club treasurer and the treasurer for the Annual Stag. From 1962 through 1972 he & Jeanne were directors for the Christian Family Movement for St. Joseph Church. Bill was a Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Member. In 1972 he became active in the Cursillo Movement and until recently he still met every Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. with others. The experience of the Cursillo Movement was instrumental in his becoming a deacon. In 1980 he became a member of the RCIA Team and in 1983 became the director for thirteen more years. Bill was ordained a Permanent Deacon on April 19, 1986 and served the bereaved of the community, preparing funeral liturgies and conducting Wake Services. He spent Wednesday afternoon's visiting shut-ins primarily the stroke victims. Bill was a facilitator for the Little Rock Bible Study Group. On January 23, 2000 he received the St. Joseph Central Catholic Alumni and Friends Heritage Award, which is given annually for outstanding support and contributions to SJCC and its surrounding Christian community. Bill was a former member of the Fremont Recreation Board and the Fremont Lions Club (former president from 1976-1977), Elks Lodge and Serra Club International. Surviving in addition to his wife are children: Bonnie L. (Bill) Peiffer of Fremont, Margaret "Peg" (Tom) Smith of Bucyrus and William "Bill" (Sue) Snyder of Freeland, WA; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Jane Snyder. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 14, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont at 10:30 AM with Fr. Nicholas Weibl officiating. His body will lie in state from 9:30-10:15 AM at the church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 2-4 & 6-8 PM with a vigil service beginning at 7:45 PM with Deacon Jim Hammer. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and VFW Post. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont Noon Lions Club or to the Fremont Food Pantry.
