James Samuel "Moe" Hoy, 65, of Kansas, OH died with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 19 at Mercy St. Charles Medical Center in Oregon. Born on December 3, 1946 in Gibsonburg, he was a son to the now deceased John and Marge (Ottney) Hoy. He was raised and graduated high school in Gibsonburg. He then joined the US Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam Era. It was there that Moe earned two purple hearts and was commended for his duties. It was also there that he contracted Agent Orange and Hepatitis C from blood transfusions. In 2003, Moe began experiencing symptoms of the latent Hepatitis and struggled since in an attempt to combat the debilitating disease. His service to his country was the ultimate sacrifice. After being discharged in 1967, Moe worked at Brush Wellman, the former Ringneck Ridge Hunt Club and, lastly, at the former Basic Plant in Millersville. He lived a life full of humor, adventure and compassion and love for his family and many friends. Moe was an avid hunter, fisherman, animal lover, mushroom hunter, NASCAR fan and homing pigeon racer. In 1972, Moe married the love of his life, Sherri Brown, being married for over 40 years. Sherri survives. Also surviving are sons, Jason (Danielle) of Pemberville and Andrew (Christie) of Gibsonburg; grandchildren Brad, Emily, Kameill, Megan, Stevie, Daryn and Ava; sisters Donna Gerkensmeyer (Jim Bohland) of Martin, Judy (Kenneth) Cantrell, Sharon Schuett and Roslyn Busdeker (Gary Schlea) all of Gibsonburg Moe is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leroy "Butch", brothers in law Randy Busdeker and Herman Gerkensmeyer, and best friends David Aldrich and John Fork. Friends and family will be received on Sunday, September 23, 1-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg where memorial services will be Monday 10:30 a.m. Rev. Ted Miller will officiate. Military Rites will be offered by the Gibsonburg Post of the American Legion. Burial will be at a later date in West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an account set up to aid Moe's granddaughter, Ava Hoy, who suffers from Cardio Facio Cutaneous Syndrome and needs constant care for quality of life, C/O Sharon Schuett/Moe Hoy Memorial Fund, 500 S.
