Don M. Smith, 87, of Fremont, died early Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Bethesda Care Center. He was born on June 17, 1925 in Gibsonburg, OH to Clarence and Julia (Laderman) Smith. Don was a 1943 graduate of Jackson Liberty High School. On November 4, 1944 he married Jean Stull in Fostoria and she survives. Don was a lifelong farmer retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and had served on the Board of the former Rural Serve Co-op. Don was a member of the First English Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing softball and basketball. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Robert L. (Nancy) Smith of Tiffin, Nancy L. Smith of Santa Rosa, CA and daughter-in-law, Linda Smith of Findlay; sisters-in-law, Evelyn & Marjorie; grandchildren, Dale Smith, Aaron (Nikki) Smith, Sara (John) Mulvey and Matthew (Kim) Smith and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, William "Bill" A. Smith; grandson, Evan Smith; siblings, Darlene Brown, Roy Smith, Norma Kinney and Ray Smith. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 3-7 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg with one hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Eric Schwochow will officiate. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or to Lutheran Home of Mercy, P.O. Box 187, Williston, OH 43468 in Don's memory.
