Ethel Mae Fisher, 95, of Fremont, passed away peacefully early Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Elmwood at the Springs, Green Springs, OH. She was born on September 3, 1917 in Fremont, daughter of the late Glenn Zink and Alta (Maurer) Weible. She spent her early years on a farm in the Green Springs area and graduated from Green Springs High School in 1935. She excelled in basketball and track. She continued her education at Tiffin Business College and worked at the National Carbon Works in Fremont until she married. She married Raymond Fisher at Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont on June 3, 1940. After raising her family, Ethel became executive director of Camp Fire Girls in Fremont and helped with development of Camp Yukita on Catawba Island. Later she was hired as executive secretary for the Fremont City Board of Education where she worked for 23 years. She loved following the Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Steelers, Ohio State and Pro golf. She was a bowler for over 50 years and a member of the 600 club. She bowled at all the bowling alleys in Fremont and won many tournaments in Fremont and traveled to intercity tournaments. She continued to bowl until Plaza Lanes burned down. She took up golf after retirement and was a member of Sycamore Hills, golfing until the age of 90.. In the last few years she also became a sprint car racing fan, following her granddaughter in Fremont. She also loved boating, camping, gardening and sewing. Ethel was a 72 year member of Grace Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild, taught Sunday school and in the early days of Grace Church worked on many dinners held to raise money to build the church. Ethel was also a Camp Fire and Blue Bird leader for many years. Surviving are her three children; Faye (Cliff) Rawson of Fremont, Linda Elder of Waukesha, WI and Cindie (Mark) Cole of Lindsey. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Rick Rawson, Tammy (Steve) Fisher, Pamela (Mike) Rubio, Cathy (Tim) Polyak, Brian Elder, Jake (Jacki Maines) Cole, Luke (Samantha Legron) Cole; great-grandchildren Cody and Stephanie Fisher, Kelsey, Paige and Logan Polyak, Alexander Rubio, Julia Ballenger, Payton Legron, Annabelle and Kale Cole; dear sister-in law Mary LaFountaine, several nieces and nephews and her beagle dog Libby. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Ray, her brother Clyde Weible, one infant sister, one infant brother, and one infant grandson. Family and friends may join in celebrating her life from 4-7 Friday, November 9, 2012 at Herman-Kinn Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be held on Saturday November 10, 2012 at 11:00 at the funeral home with an hour of visitation before services. Pastor James Avers will officiate. Burial will follow at Four Mile House Cemetery, Fremont. Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Fremont, Camp Fire Girls of Fremont or donor's choice.
