James W. Zeller

James W. Zeller 87, of Gibsonburg died early Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Jim was born in Fremont, Ohio at Memorial Hospital on September 15, 1925 to Charles (Carl) and Leta (Ottney) Zeller. He attended Gibsonburg Schools and graduated with the class of 1943. After high school, Jim served in World War II in the 8th Air Force in the European Theater (England), the 44th Bomb Group and the 68th Bomb Squadron - B-24's. Jim had 27 missions over Germany as a waist gunner in a B-24 bomber and was awarded 4 Battle Stars while serving in the Army Air Corps. After serving in the war, he graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Jim married Loyola Dolweck at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gibsonburg on September 2, 1961. He worked for Gibsonburg Lime Products and later Pfizer, Inc. for 36 years retiring in 1983. Jim was a life and charter member in the Sandusky County Sportsman Club and a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association of America. He also served as Central Committeeman for the Sandusky County Democrats and was a Gibsonburg Councilman for 8 years. He belonged to the American Legion and St. Michael's Church. Jim's hobbies included trapshooting, deer hunting, fishing, golfing and bike riding. For many years, he enjoyed annual hunting trips with friends to Sucker Lake Lodge in Canada. He was also a deltiologist, a collector of old post cards. His collection focused on the early days of Gibsonburg. Jim was a wonderful family man who enjoyed time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife, children; Rosalie Zeller of Bellbrook, Ohio, Jim J. (Amy) Zeller of Woodville, Ohio, Sally Zeller of Gibsonburg; grandchildren Katie and Miranda Fisher of Bellbrook and Marina and Tyler Zeller of Woodville; and, brother David J. Zeller of Gibsonburg. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Diane Zeller and Carol Ann Zeller and brother, John L. Zeller. Visitation will be held on Friday December 7, 2012 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. A mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, noon, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gibsonburg where there will be an additional hour of visitation beforehand. Burial with military rites will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Gibsonburg. Memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to St. Michael's Church, the Gibsonburg Post of the American Legion or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
