Vernon "Lefty" P. Roepke of Lindsey, OH passed away early Sunday morning at Memorial Hospital, Fremont. He suffered from a short illness of two weeks. Lefty was born on the 13th of August 1931 in Ottawa County, Oak Harbor, OH to Lawrence and Malinda (Rader) Roepke. Lefty married Marjorie Smith on the 10th of June 1951 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hessville, OH by A. W. Lynn. They celebrated their 60th Anniversary in June of 2011. Lefty was a graduate of Oak Harbor School. He was employed by the Woodruff Hatchery in Lindsey, OH and then worked as an electrician in Local 8. Lefty is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Smith) and a daughter, Kathy (John) Spanfellner of Danville; a brother Don Roepke of Perrysburg and a godchild, Cindy Roepke of Graytown. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews, plus many great great-great nieces and nephews. Since his retirement, he spent his time with his Belgian horses, Louie and Sam, a Heflinger horse and his faithful dog Beau. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hessville with Pastor Dennis Wansitler officiating. There will be one hour of visitation at church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lindsey Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church or to Sandusky County Cancer Care Fund in Lefty's memory.
