George J. Aldrich, 88, of Fremont, died on Thursday morning, February 7, 2013 at Bethesda Care Center. He was born on July 19, 1924 in Gibsonburg to George and Aanis (Cunningham) Aldrich. On October 3, 1980 he married Geraldine Deatherage and she preceded him in death on September 23, 2006. George served in the US Army during WWII in Europe. He was a mechanic and welder for the Ohio Turnpike Commission for 22 years, retiring in 1986. George also was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, National Rifle Association and the Whittington Center in NM. Surviving are his children: Samuel and Melvin Aldrich both of Fostoria; Evelyn Flaiff & Steven Aldrich both of Fremont, stepchildren: Dorothy Bookman of Perrysburg, Jeff (Susan) Lemmon of Clyde and stepson-in-law, Craig Bentley also survives; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-in-law; Diana Aldrich; stepdaughter Judy Bentley, three sisters and four brothers. A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.
