George Canonicus Dean, age 90, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Battle Creek Veterans Medical Center, Battle Creek, Michigan. Born to George and Helen Dean of Gibsonburg, Ohio on May 7, 1923, he was a 1941 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. He attended Marquette University, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1944. In addition to being a proud World War II Naval Veteran, George was an avid, accomplished chess player and devoutly religious man who resided in the Battle Creek area. He was a generous man who enjoyed travel, good food and a fine suit of clothes. George is preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen (Zeller) Dean, brothers John Dean and Frank Dean, and nephew Tom Dean. He is survived by his brother, Roger (Marilyn) Dean and several nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 10:00 and 11:00, respectively, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street, Maumee, Ohio. Interment will take place at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Ohio. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at the Battle Creek Veterans Home and Medical Center for their years of care and support of George and his family.
