Robert C. Michael, 98 of Fremont, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Elmwood at the Springs in Green Springs, OH and went to be with our Lord. He was born October 8, 1914 in Fremont the son of Robert William and Marie Krawetzke. Robert's great-grandparents immigrated from Diemeringen, Alasace-Loraine Province, France in 1934 and upon becoming U.S. citizens in 1840 changed their name from Mingel to Michael. Robert's mother died when he was eight years old and his three sisters: Marie Kathryn, Lulu Esther, and an infant all preceded him in death. His father passed away in 1955. Robert attended Ball School north of Fremont and graduated from Ross High School in 1933 where he excelled in track and cross-country. He married Mary Naomi Carnicom, daughter of Wesley and Golden Fought Carnicom on November 23, 1939 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont. He taught the 3rd Grade Boys Sunday School class there for many years. They lived on Adam Street north of Fremont east of the old Port Clinton Road. He worked at the Bingham-Herbrand Corporation as an inspector and planer operator until its closing in 1962. Robert worked at Litn-ing Products and Moore Business Forms until his retirement in 1979. For 75 years he and Mary owned and operated Michael's Grove Marina and Campgrounds north of Fremont. Mary went to be with our Lord on August 2, 2004. They have five children: Robert Lee (Sheila Jean Mason) Michael, Sharon Marie (Ed) Mitchell, Brenda Jean (Jerry) Held, A. Scott (Mary Jayne Reed) Michael and Kim Wesley Michael. They have 17 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 10 1/2 great- great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place on Friday, June 7, 2013 from 9-11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. Certified Celebrant Maureen Pump will be officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to: Grace Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
