Richard "Rick" P. Byrnes, 70, of Fremont, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at UTMC. He was born on July 2, 1942 to Thomas & Anne Margaret (Byrnes) Byrnes in Pittsburgh, PA. Rick graduated from North Catholic High School, Pittsburgh, in 1960, and earned his master's degree in physics and quantum mechanics. He served in the Army at Edgewood Arsenal and in the Vietnam War from 1964-1966. He married Sue Anne Cooper in Westfall, NY on July 5, 1970, and she survives. Rick was a physics and mathematics college professor at Owens State Community College and also the University of Toledo, and retired on December 31, 2011. Rick enjoyed computers, fly fishing, playing golf, going to the opera, and machining in his spare time. He also enjoyed crossword and math puzzles, photography, and kept a greenhouse where he grew roses and orchids. Along with his wife, Sue Anne, Rick is survived by children; Michael Byrnes of Blue Ash, OH, Gregory (Hilary) Byrnes of Niskayuna, NY, siblings; Thomas (Camille) Byrnes of Falls Church, VA, Anne Margaret "Nancy" Byrnes, Charles (Jane Anne) Byrnes, both of Pittsburgh, PA, and grand-daughter; Zoe Byrnes. Visitation will be Monday, June 17, 2013 at Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 11am-1pm with a service following at 1pm. Certified Celebrant Maureen Pump will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
