Dwight Swaisgood, 95 of Fremont passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Valley View Care Center. He was born on February 4, 1918 in Tinney, OH, Scott Twp. to Oather & Ida Loree (Klienhenn) Swaisgood. Dwight graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1936. He was a dairy farmer for 35 years and continued farming after his retirement and had won several awards for his crop production in tomatoes, beets and cucumbers, retiring in 1985. He continued to farm and volunteer in the community after his retirement, farming for over 60 years and volunteering at Bethesda Care Center for over 25 years and also at the Sandusky County Fair with the Kiwanis Club. He married Ruth Roush on July 25, 1941 and she preceded him in death on February 25, 1971, then he married Betty Michael Swaisgood on December 7, 1971 and she survives in Fremont. Dwight was a fun loving person who enjoyed life, sharing his love for his family by hosting the family Christmas for 19 years at Ole Zim's Wagon Shed. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dwight was a member of the Farm Bureau Council, Kiwanis member, various bowling leagues, Holstein Friesian Assoc., former board of directors of the Lindsey & Elmore elevators, and he was a member of the Church of Christ, Fremont and in his earlier years he was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church , Lindsey He enjoyed golfing, bowling and traveling. Surviving are his children; Nancy (Jon) Schrier of Manistique, MI, Mick (Shirley) Swaisgood of Helena, Fred Swaisgood of Bellbrook, OH, Shari (Gary) Strausbaugh of Fostoria, Susie (Lincoln) Rowell of Risingsun, daughter-in-law; Vickie Swaisgood of Fremont. Dwight is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother; Pearl (Gries) Swaisgood, son; Myron L. "Moe" Swaisgood, daughter-in-law; Lin Swaisgood, brothers; Norman and Ronald Swaisgood. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 10:30 AM the funeral home with Pastor Forrest Kirchenbauer officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery, Risingsun. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or to the American Cancer Society in Dwight's memory
