Betty Swaisgood, 87, formerly of Fremont, died on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria. She was born on June 3, 1926 in Haskell, OK to Howard and Sarah (Hamilton) Michael. Betty grew up in the oil fields of Haskell, OK until she was 16. She was a 1944 graduate of Gibsonburg High School. She was married to Lewis Swaisgood for 23 years until his passing on February 14, 1969. She then married Dwight Swaisgood they were married for 42 years until his passing on June 16, 2013. Betty was one of the first lady school bus drivers for Lakota School District. She was a homemaker, loving mother and farm wife. Betty was a member of the Church of Christ, Fremont, the Sandusky County Farm Bureau and various bowling leagues. She loved music and enjoyed singing with her sisters at various family gatherings. Betty was an excellent cook and baker. She grew a very large garden and canned all her own produce. Betty enjoyed bowling, needlepoint embroidery and world travel with her husband. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and also volunteered at Bethesda Care Center for over 25 years. Surviving are her children; Nancy (Jon) Schrier of Manistique, MI, Mick (Shirley) Swaisgood of Helena, Fred Swaisgood of Bellbrook, OH, Shari (Gary) Strausbaugh of Fostoria, Susie (Lincoln) Rowell of Risingsun, daughter-in-law; Vickie Swaisgood of Fremont; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Plouck of Pemberville and Linda (Harry) Lombard of Sandusky. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard Michael and sister, Mary Ann Root; son, Myron L. "Moe" Swaisgood, daughter-in-law; Lin Swaisgood. Visitation will be on Friday, August 16, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Forrest Kirchenbauer will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Memory Gardens, Arcadia, OH. Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to the Church of Christ, Fremont, Hospice of Memorial Hospital or to the Alzheimer's Association.
