Charles Edward Obenauer, Jr., 73 of Gibsonburg, passed away at his home on Friday, August 23, 2013. Charles was born in Cleveland on April 6, 1940 to Charles Sr. & Genevieve (Bartsche) Obenauer. Charles was a 1958 graduate of John Marshall High School and attended Bowling Green State University and the American Institute of Banking. In 1962 he married Jean Nuhfer. Charles was enlisted in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. He was a computer programmer for 20 years and taught computer programming at Cleveland State. He and his wife also owned and operated the family business, Nuhfer's Flowers, for 20 years. Charles was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gibsonburg. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus 3rd & 4th Degree. Charles is survived by his wife, mother and children, Christina (Bret) Jonas of North Baltimore, John (Michelle) Obenauer of Southhaven, MS., and Carrie Liz (Michele Schweikert) Kaiser of Toledo; grandchildren, Brandon and Justin Smith, Lily Obenauer, and Rebecca and Gretchen Kaiser; great-grandson, Cameron Smith and brother, Dennis (Donna) Obenauer of New Baltimore, MI; special family friends, Elizabeth and Brian Reynolds and girls, Peter and Carolyn Witker and Steve Witker. He is preceded in death by his father and grand-daughter, Krista Smith. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gibsonburg at 10:30 a.m., Father Ted Miller will officiate. Burial will be held at West Union Cemetery. Contributions in Charles's memory may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church or the Gibsonburg American Legion.
