Paul Fick

Paul Albert Fick, 93, of Fremont, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at Valley View Healthcare Center after a short illness. He was born on November 7, 1919 in Fremont to Paul and Martha (Valentine Waggoner) Fick and graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1937. A member of the U.S. Air Force's 361st Fighter Group, Paul served during World War II from 1940-1945. Paul married Dorothy P. Kramer in 1947, and she survives. They resided in the house he built in 1948. In his youth, Paul worked at Lorentz Shoe Repair Shop, the gas station at Rainbow and delivered newspapers. He worked at National Carbon and Herbrand Corp. before a long career as a tool designer at National Machinery in Tiffin. He held three U.S. patents. Paul enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family. He had a quick wit and passed his sense of humor on to his sons. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Washington Nationals. Survivors include his wife of 66 years; sons, James (Betty) of Bluffton, S.C., John (RoseAnn) of Westerville, and Joseph (Jill) of Fremont; grandchildren, Tim Fick, Tami Veliquette, Jodi Fick and Jessica Quaterman; four great-grandsons; and several nephews. Friends and family are invited to gather on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Jim Avers will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by the Fremont American Legion Honor Guard.
