Michael "NBC" Lee Overmyer, age 42, died at his home in Bangor, ME on November 7, 2013. Michael was born on July 22, 1971 in Toledo, to Martha (Darr) and Roy Overmyer. He attended Fremont Ross High School, graduating in 1989 Mike first worked during his high school years for Kenny Novitski at Fremont Ponderosa, who inspired him with the passion for cooking and culinary skills. Mike then joined the U.S. Navy where he toured on the U.S. John F. Kennedy, throughout the Mediterranean and served during Desert Storm. Mike had the honor of preparing dinner for Caroline Kennedy while acting as Chef to the Captain on the Kennedy. Mike was a chef for the Fremont Country Club, The Crew's Nest at Put-in-Bay, Spreaders in Huron and he was also a chef at Tik-Chik Lodge Resort in Alaska, several resorts in Florida and Oklahoma and Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa in Stowe, Vermont. Michael was most recently a chef for Bradford Camps in Ashland, Maine where his friendship with Igor and Karen Sikorsky became his family away from Ohio. As a career chef, Mike was able to travel, build lifelong friendships and share his passion for cooking and new foods with friends and family alike. Mike's legacy has passed to his son, Michael Andrew, who has the love for culinary and the Dave Matthew's Band. Surviving are son, Michael Andrew Overmyer of Fremont, mother, Martha "Marfy" (Darr) Overmyer and brother, Dan A. (Krissy Fox) Overmyer of Gibsonburg; Aunts and Uncles, John (Pauline) Darr, Robert (Martha) Darr, Mary (Dean) Pfefferle all of Fremont, Richard Darr of Fostoria, Vincent (Vicki) Overmyer, William (Dana) Overmyer of Willard, Gary (Debbie) Overmyer of Clyde, Carl (Jennifer) Overmyer of New Mexico and Brenda (Tony) White; cousins, Cheryl Donnells, Carol Carrillo, Amy Ryan, Debbie Eisenman, Sharon Spader, Lori Weisheit, Allen, Brian, Bradford, Kim & Tim Darr, Penny Hossler, Jon Overmyer, Carly Cuevas, Nicki Overmyer, Libby Calloway, Eric & Kevin Overmyer, Heather Franzoy, Ali Overmyer, Brad, Jeff & Ryan Schwochow. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy David Overmyer, grandparents; Peter and Frances Darr, Donald and Susanne Overmyer and cousins, David A. Pfefferle and Anthony "Tony" F. Schwochow. Visitation will be held at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont on Monday, November 18, 2013 from 2- 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Father Jacob Gordon will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael Lee Overmyer Memorial Fund which has been established at Croghan Colonial Bank of Fremont. This fund will be used to assist his son, Mikey with college expenses.
