Harold Payne

Harold Payne, 85, of rural Gibsonburg passed away at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. Harold was born on Dec. 7, 1927 in Kansas City, MO, the only child of Francis and Marie (Nash) Payne. A 1945 graduate of Gibsonburg High School, he went on to excel in a position with the US Peace Corp. Harold was stationed in Santiago, Chile from 1965-67, being the highest decorated volunteer for his service of training in Skilled Trades. While in the Corp, he met his wife, Patricia Correa, whom he married in Santiago, Chile. In 1968, Harold received a request from the President of Chile to represent the United Nations, International Labor Office, and was sent to Geneva, Switzerland and Milan, Italy to continuing to train others. Upon his return to the States, Harold worked as a tool & die maker for Allied Signal for over 45 years, retiring in 1990. He was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gibsonburg and was currently a member at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg. Harold was a licensed pilot and owned his own Cessna. Along with flying he enjoyed tennis, golf, swimming and fishing. He also practiced playing the harmonica and ukulele. He took great pride in watching his granddaughters play sports. In addition to his wife, Patricia, Harold is survived by his children Patrick Payne of Gibsonburg and Rosemarie Payne of Columbus; and granddaughters Kenzie and Melanie. A time of gathering and remembrance will be offered at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 4-8 p.m. where a Celebration of Life will begin at 8 p.m. Deacon Rene Gonzalez will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harold's memory may be made to the Cherry Street Mission, Toledo or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
