Mary Redding

June 18, 1929 — March 21, 2014

Mary Anne (Wiegman) Redding was born in Lima, OH to John H. and Mary Gertrude (Kern) Wiegman on June 18, 1929 and passed away March 21, 2014. She spent her early years in Continental, OH, and attended school in Fremont, graduating Fremont Ross High School in 1947. She married Herb J. Redding on August 8, 1953. She worked as a continuity writer for WFRO in Fremont and WSPD in Toledo. Mary graduated BGSU with a BS in elementary education in 1978 and later with an MEd in special education. She taught in the Lakota, Woodmore, Gibsonburg and Clyde school districts before retiring from Bellevue City Schools where she worked as a reading teacher. Mary is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Jim) Sanders of FL; grandchildren, Christopher James, Patrick Joseph, Matthew Jordan, and Caitlin Mary; nieces, Ann Sydnor, Joyce Colson, and Sue Bowman, and nephews, Charlie Scroggin and Pete Wiegman. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2010, parents, brother, John "Jack" Wiegman, sister, Jane Scroggin, and a stillborn son, Joseph. She was a member of the Ohio Education Association, Kappa Delta Pi, and Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Services will be held on Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W. State Street, Fremont, at 11:00 a.m. with one hour additional visitation prior to the service at church. Pastor Jody Rice will be officiating. Burial will be held at W. Union Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Herb J. Redding Scholarship Fund c/o Gibsonburg High School.
