Lifelong Gibsonburg resident, Roy W. "Whitey" Crispen, 86, passed away on May 6, 2014 at Northwest Ohio Hospice of Perrysburg. Whitey was born in Gibsonburg on August 29, 1927 to Bert O. and Nora (Saam) Crispen. He married Donna Taulker on November 5, 1949 in Gibsonburg. She preceded him in death on March 20, 1993. Roy graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1946 and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He later worked as a former truck driver for Libbey-Owens-Ford but retired in 1989 from the Gibsonburg U.S. Post Office where he was a long time rural mail carrier. Whitey was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg, Sandusky County Veterans' Commission, the American Legion 40/8 and Voiture 1057 and was a Life Member of the American Legion Post of Gibsonburg, the VFW of Fremont, the Sandusky County AMVets and the Gibsonburg Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his children Carol Magrum, Donald (Cindy) Crispen, and Becky (Gary) Stang all Gibsonburg; grandchildren Travis and Lucas Magrum, Amanda (Joshua) Thomas, Christopher Crispen, Ashley Mooney and Courtney (Jeremy) Velliquette; step grandchildren Bob (Jenni) Stang and Quentin (Beth) Stang; 3great grandosns; 5 step great grandchildren; siblings Wilma Scott of Bowling Green, Marvin Crispen of Lindsey, and Brenda Hostottle of Bradner; and special friend, Virginia Rahe. He is preceded in death by his wife, son-in-law Dale Magrum and siblings Naomi Ward, Marvel Hampshire and Harold & Howard Crispen. Visitation will be held at Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Thursday, May 8, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 9, 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church where there will be an additional hour of visitation beginning at 9:30. Rev. Blair Miller will officiate. Burial with Military Rites will be held at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg. Contributions in Roy's memory may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg Fire Department, or Donor's Choice.
