Former Gibsonburg, Ohio resident, Steven Richard Shreffler, age 56, of Huntertown, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 23 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on August 3, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio, Steve was the son of Richard and Carolyn (Kirsch) Shreffler. He graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1975, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1979, and earned a master's degree from Kettering University in 1993. Steve spent his entire career as a dedicated employee of General Motors Corporation at its facilities in Pontiac, Michigan, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Janesville, Wisconsin. Growing up in Gibsonburg, Ohio, Steve enjoyed spending time at his Grandma and Grandpa Shreffler's farm raising sheep and Polled Herefords and helping with other farm chores. Steve's plan was to spend his retirement years living on a farm near his hometown of Gibsonburg. Steve was a decorated athlete and quarterback of Gibsonburg High School's undefeated 1973 football team. Steve was passionate about living life to the fullest. He was an avid Ohio State fan, loved spending time with family and friends at the lake, attending his children's activities, doing home improvement projects, and fishing. Steve loved being a grandpa to his baby grandson, Jack. On August 23, 1980, Steve married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Jurski, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg, Ohio. She survives in Huntertown. In addition to Steve's mother, Carolyn Shreffler of Gibsonburg, Ohio; and wife, Teresa of Huntertown, Indiana; he is survived by children Brittney (Patrick) Myers of Toledo, Ohio, Colby (Anne) Shreffler of Fishers, Indiana, Heather Shreffler of Dublin, Ohio, and Jordan Shreffler of Huntertown, Indiana; grandson Jack Myers; and sister Debra (Tim) Borcherding of Dublin, Ohio. Steve is preceded in death by his father, Richard (Pug) Shreffler. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 29, 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg where his body will lie in state beginning at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends will be welcomed at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 28, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will be at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg, Ohio. Donations in Steve's memory may be made to the Gibsonburg Educational Foundation or to the Concordia Educational Foundation (supports Concordia Lutheran High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana).
