Nelson Berger Jr., 84, of Fremont passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Nelson was born on February 14, 1930 to Nelson and Helen (Stokes) Berger in York Township, OH. He married his wife Ruth Samson on July 10, 1954 in Luckey, OH. Nelson enlisted into the Army on February 26, 1951 and served in the Korean War. He was discharged on January 31, 1953 and went on to work at Whirlpool for 40 years before retiring in 1990. Nelson was a life member of the VFW and an avid sports fan. He was a proud fan of Fremont Ross Little Giants, as well as the Buckeyes, Browns and Indians. Surviving him is his wife, Ruth Berger; children, Sharon Evans of Lindsey and Joe (Julie) Berger of Fremont; siblings, Carol Gage of West Salem, OH and Richard (Barb) Berger of Fremont; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Nelson is preceded in death by his parents; children, Gerald and Kenneth Berger; and siblings, Doris Miller, Evelyn Hoffman, Phyllis Nitschke, David Berger, and Ruth Watson. Visitation will be held at Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Monday, June 9, 2014 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm, with funeral services on Tuesday starting at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Lees will be officiating. Burial will be held at McPherson Cemetery, Clyde with military services provided by the Fremont VFW and American Legion Posts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or St. John's Lutheran Church, Fremont.
