Dale Roscoe Bowlus

Dale Roscoe Bowlus, 91, of Havre de Grace, MD, formerly of Gibsonburg, passed away on July 13, 2014 at Harford Memorial Hospital, MD. Dale was born on November 26, 1922 to Roscoe and Jessie (Forgerson) Bowlus in Fremont. He married Margaret A. (Richard) Bowlus in June of 1947 at Faith United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg; she precedes him in death. After his wife Margaret's death in 2011, Dale moved to Maryland to live with his son and his wife, where he loved taking rides around the scenic bay area and eating at local restaurants. He was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes. Spending the last few years, he reviewed Ohio State football and basketball history and enjoyed reading his "Buckeye Sports Bulletin". During baseball he intently watched Indians baseball and even learned to enjoy the Baltimore Orioles baseball team, while during football season - "GO BUCKEYES!". During his life in Ohio, Dale loved caring for his lawn and flower beds, socializing with family and friends, and enjoyed traveling to spend time with his family on the East Coast. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1941, where he enjoyed participating in sports (lettering in track, basketball, and football). He retired from being Co-owner of Dandale Chevrolet in Gibsonburg and later, the assistant personnel manager of the United States Gypsum Company of Genoa, Ohio. Dale was a member of American Legion Post #17, Gibsonburg, for 67 years and served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943-46 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, receiving a Purple Heart. After his return from service, he attended Bowling Green State University. Dale was a lifetime member of Faith United Methodist Church in Gibsonburg, OH. Dale was a loving father to Dale Richard "Rick" Bowlus, and his wife Vicki of Havre de Grace, MD; adored grandfather of Kameron Taylor and husband, Brian of Sugar Hill, GA; Lyndsey Bowlus of Charlotte, NC; and Meganne Hardt and husband, Tyler of Alpharetta, GA. He is also survived by his great grandchildren; Lauren, Ava, and Alexis Taylor and Collin and Allison Hardt. Dale is also preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Mildred Peters and Vonda Kokai. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM, at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg, with a graveside service on Sunday, July 20, 2014 11:00 AM at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg. Contributions may be made in his memory to Faith United Methodist Church, Gibsonburg or to the Gibsonburg Volunteer Fire Department.
