Michael R. Frater, 60, of Fremont passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Mercy Saint Charles Hospital, Toledo. He was born on September 25, 1953 to James and Mary (Bailey) Frater in Fremont. Mike was a graduate from Fremont Ross High School, Class of 1971. He continued his education by going to Terra Community College for Industrial Maintenance. Mike worked at Eveready Battery for 28 years as a machine mechanic; with the Union working at Mosser Construction; and at St. Boniface, Oak Harbor as the Maintenance Custodian where he retired in 2011. Mike was a member of the Fremont Elks, St. John's Lutheran Church, and the Depot Golf League. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, yard work, and watching NASCAR. He was an Ohio State football, basketball, and baseball fan. He married Martha "Marty" Zimmerman on October 3, 1975 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Fremont. She survives him. Mike is also survived by his mother, Mary Baxter of Fremont; children, Michael J. (Hilary) Frater of Fremont and Matthew D. (Laura) Frater of Aiken, SC; sisters, Pat (Dave) Fleming and Judy (Richard) Hufford of Fremont; and grandchildren, William Matthew Frater and Samuel Weston Frater. He is preceded in death by his father, James Frater; and brothers, James Frater and Thomas Frater. Visitation will be held at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 - 11 A.M. at the funeral home, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Pastor Joseph Lees will be officiating. Burial will take place at McGormley Cemetery, Fremont. Donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, American Heart Assoc., or to the American Cancer Society in Mike's memory.
