Barbara Joan Haubert

Barbara Joan Haubert died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Valley View Health Care Center, Fremont. She was born June 24, 1936 in Fremont to William and Reba (Hillyer) Semer. Barbara graduated in 1954 from Jackson-Burgoon High School and on April 16,1955, she married her high school sweetheart, James Haubert. They loved and supported each other at their family farm home, east of Helena, for 52 years until his death on May 17, 2007. In 1973, Barbara graduated from BGSU and began a 34-year career in teaching, which fulfilled a lifetime dream. She felt blessed to be able to share her love of learning with students at St. Ann's, Fremont and Millersville, St. Mary's Elementary Schools. Barbara encouraged her students to spend time in service with the Jackson Twp. Food Distribution and the School of Hope Special Olympics for many years. Participating in many activities in the community, church, and family, filled her life. In the community, she was a founding member of the Lakota Young Farm Wives (winning the state Young Homemakers Award in 1968) and Sandusky County Pork Producers women's group. This group promoted pork products and enjoyed friendships at the Country Kitchen each year during the fair. She was a 4-H advisor for 10 years. She also volunteered at the Jackson Twp. Board of Elections and Fremont Food Pantry Barbara was co-chairman of the family Relay for Life Team "Fishing for a Cure". She was a member of Millersville, St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister, PSR teacher, and member of the funeral committee and choir. She was also active in Fremont Deanery Serra Club. Barbara, along with her husband, enjoyed family vacations in Amish County, Outer Banks in North Carolina, Northern Michigan and fishing on Lake Erie. They enjoyed holidays as well as social and school activities with the family. Surviving are her precious children; Timothy (Jeanne) Haubert of Burgoon, Gregory (Rene') Haubert of Tiffin, Elizabeth (Michael) Gabel of Fremont, Rebecca (Trace) O'Brien of Sylvania, and Mary (Mark) Manning of Grafton. In addition, there are also 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren in the family. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and sons, James Jr., Joseph and Philip; and sister, Janice Carroll. Visitation will be held at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Millersville 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Friends may also gather on Saturday 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home for prayers prior to the mass. Father Ted Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Millersville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Hoffman Catholic Schools for the James and Barbara Haubert Scholarship Fund, St. Mary's Church, or American Cancer Society.
