Irvin "Irv" Klohn, age 85, of Fremont, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Countryside Continuing Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's. A lifelong resident of Fremont, he was born on January 12, 1929 in rural Fremont to the deceased Otto and Esther (Gallagher) Klohn. He graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1946 and served as a Corporal in the U.S. Air Force until his Honorable Discharge in 1950. He then attended Bowling Green State University. Irv married Carol (Myers) Klohn of Findlay, OH in 1965 and she survives. He was employed by Whirlpool Corp. for 35 years until his retirement in 1989. Because of their shared love of antiques, shortly after his retirement from Whirlpool, Irv and Carol started a business known as Carol's Tag Service, where they worked side by side for more than 20 years. Irv was an active and lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on many boards and committees over the years. He was also an active member of the Ross High School Athletic Boosters and Music Boosters. He was the former President of the Sandusky Co. Historical Society and a volunteer for several years at the Hayes Presidential Center. He was also a passionate Ohio State and Ross High School football fan. Irv believed in restoring the beauty of older things and enjoyed woodworking and refurbishing antique furniture. He was an avid gardener and lover of all things blossoming and blooming. Most days at home, Irv could be seen in his garden with tools in his hands and trusted dog by his side. Irv is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Carol Klohn of Fremont; his brother, Kenneth (Barb) Klohn of Fremont; his children, Kevin (Joellen) Klohn of Fredericksburg, TX; Brad (Annette) Klohn of Summerville, SC; and Heidi (Sam) Khalilieh of Powell, OH. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Katie and Emily Klohn of Fredericksburg, TX and Sophie and Christopher Khalilieh of Powell, OH; one step-granddaughter, Shannon of Summerville, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Esther Klohn; his sister, Lois Jean Polter; and his brother, Donald C. Klohn. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the care, devotion and compassion of the incredible staff at Countryside Continuing Care. A memorial and celebration of Irv's life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W State St., Fremont, OH on Friday, November 14, 2014.
