Gibsonburg resident, Marilyn A. Harpel, 75, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Hospice of NW OH in Perrysburg. Born on June 3, 1939 in Fremont, Marilyn was a daughter of Ernie and Marjorie (Herr) Schuett. Marilyn graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1957 and returned to the Schools, working in the cafeteria as a cashier. She retired from the Gibsonburg Schools after serving over 25 years. On Sept. 10, 1959, she married Matthew "Butch" Harpel in Jackson, Michigan. Butch survives her. Marilyn will be well remembered for her love of her family and their gatherings. She enjoyed sharing time with her husband in the search of deer, birds, turkeys and other wildlife; gardening and bike riding. She was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. Also surviving are beloved children Dee (Kevin) Haubert of Gibsonburg, Tod (Andrea Persing) Harpel of Lakewood, Lisa (Kirk) Katafias of Gibsonburg and Abby Black; sister Carol Schaefer of Youngwood, PA; 8 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; son, Jon; and brother-in-law Bill Schaefer. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, 1-3 & 5-7 p.m., at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Gibsonburg, where funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 3000 E.
