Janet E. Mehling, 74, of Fremont died on Friday, November 14, 2014 at her home. She was born on September 15, 1940 to the late Ralph G. and Lucile (Zweily) Voss in Fremont. On April 15, 1961, she married Robert J. Mehling at St. Joseph's Church in Fremont, and they later divorced. Janet was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School and Bowling Green State University. From school she went on to teach first grade at Stamm Elementary School in Fremont. After raising her five sons, Janet worked a total of 20 years in the construction loan department for Fremont Savings Bank, Society Bank, and retired from Key Bank, Toledo in 1990. Janet was a member and teacher for Nami of Sandusky County and attended Terra State Community Elder College. She was a member of Grace Community Church and enjoyed golfing, bowling, dominoes, and traveling; including trips to England and France. Her special interests include: The Humane Society, Hayes Presidential Society, Kin Hunters, and The Sandusky County Historical Society. Janet had a passion for helping others and treasured her family, friends, and "Tori", her cat. Janet is survived by her four sons, Doug (Shari) of Fremont, Ryan (Christine) of Cleveland, Eric (Gayle) of Fremont, and Matthew (Barbara) of Tiffin; her very special friend of 37 years, James Neidert of Oak Harbor; brother, Gary Voss of Fremont; 6 grandchildren; and 2 step-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son, Mark F. Mehling. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 18th beginning at 11 a.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Four Mile House Cemetery following the service. In memory of Janet, donations may be made to Sandusky County Humane Society, Nami of Sandusky County, and Hospice of Promedica Memorial Hospital.
