Faye L. Shreffler

d. December 1, 2014

Faye (Ross) Shreffler, 90, of Woodville OH, passed peacefully at her home on December 1, 2014. Born on September 5, 1924, Faye was third of eleven children of Floyd and Ethel Ross. She married Robert Shreffler on September 5, 1945 in Fremont, OH. He preceded her in death on November 1, 1999. Faye had a fascinating life, and she proudly contributed to the WWII American forces by working at the Camp Perry Proving Ground in Port Clinton, OH for 3 years. Camp Perry was the testing site for artillery, tank guns and armor plate during WWII. She enjoyed sharing memories of this time, and related how she and co-workers would correspond with various infantries by writing supportive messages on the missiles they shipped. Despite her young age, Faye was also recognized as one of the first female overhead-crane operators at the Proving Ground, and she was a noted advocate for equal pay for women. Faye was a diversified and creative woman who enjoyed sewing, crocheting, bowling, a myriad of crafts, making homemade wine, holiday baking, and a host of other activities. She and Bob especially enjoyed attending fish fries and dancing. Faye will be remembered as an active and involved resident of Woodville, who remained independent and tenacious most of her life. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob of 54 years, brothers Raymond and William Ross, and infant siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Ann Shreffler, Toledo, OH, sisters Ruby Hickam and Karen Hemminger of Fremont, OH, and several nieces & nephews. Her family would like to thank Dr. Sanders and his staff for their continuing care over the years, and the Woodville Police and EMS staff for all of their assistance and support. Honoring her wishes, cremation will be accorded by the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont, OH. Her ashes will be scattered in the same location as her husband's at the Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, OH. Private services will be held by the family. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
