Robert L. Hyde, 94, passed away at Countryside Continuing Care Center, Fremont on Sunday, January 18, 2015. He was born on March 1, 1920 to Ovid Emmit and Josephine Agatha (Petersen) Hyde in Port Clinton. Bob was a retired operator and agent from the railroad after 43 years of service with Conrail. He enjoyed volunteering at Bethesda Care Center and was the National Volunteer of the year in 1997. His hobbies included: collecting railroad artifacts, trains, and he enjoyed traveling abroad by train. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Fremont Kiwanis Club, where he was a former past president. He is survived by son, Jerald (Sandra) Hyde and daughter, Mary Sue (Steven "Bubby") Mezinger, both of Fremont; sister, Alyce (John) Ihnat of Port Clinton; 2 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 7 step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Eileen T. (Turner) Hyde of 39 years; daughter, Diane Lippincott of Toledo; and brother, Emmett Hyde of Port Clinton. Services will be private. Burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. In memory of Bob, donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Sandusky County Humane Society.
