Lifelong Gibsonburg resident, Lucille "Skip" Schumaker, 98 died Friday evening, Jan. 23, 2015 at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont. Born on Dec. 12, 1916 in Gibsonburg, Skip was the third of four children of John and Corneila (Humberger) Ottney. She graduated in 1934 from Gibsonburg High School where she lettered in basketball and track all four years. Lucille was a homemaker and, during WW II, worked at the Carbon Works in Fremont. She enjoyed camping, fishing and loved spending time with her husband in their RV at Zeller's Beach for many years. Skip will be remembered for her knitting, even till the age of 92. She also did sewing work for family, friends and community throughout her adult life. Skip was a long time member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society. On Sept. 11, 1937, she married Charles Schumaker at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Gibsonburg. Charles passed on Nov. 21, 1987. Surviving is her son Jeffrey of Gibsonburg; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, and siblings Betty Lanning, Juanita Gerwin, Raymond Ottney; and nephews, Bill and Jim Gerwin. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg. Memorials may be made to the St. Michael's Church Window Fund or to the Gibsonburg Branch of Birchard Library.
